Malcolm was a secondary school English teacher for 38 years, now retired. He is an experienced local campaigner. He has been actively involved in local politics since 1979. He was parliamentary candidate for Saffron Walden in 1997 and for Braintree in 2015 and 2017. He has been a Town Councillor in Halstead for 39 years, with 5 years as mayor. He has also been a Braintree District Councillor in the past.
He has always been involved in the local community. He is very familiar with the problems and aspirations of families in the local area. He was chair of governors at Ramsey School, chair of Witham Braintree and Halstead Home-Start.
